 Azure File Share


Step 1 : Go to your created storage account.


Step 2 : Select your storage account in which you want to share files.


Step 3 : From sidebar go to the file share option


Step 4 : Click on (+) File share option.


Step 5 : Add details.

The File share details will not ask for resource group and subscription as it is already specified in storage account details.

File Share Name :  
Rules : File share names can contain only lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, and must begin and end with a letter or a number. The name cannot contain two consecutive hyphens.



Uncheck Backup option. If backup is not necessarily required.


Click on review + create.


Click Create.


Step 6 : On the File Share overview page you can directly upload files/folders or click on add directory.


While adding directory name you can see here you can add any name you want with white spaces, uppercase letters, hyphens because it uses SMB Protocol.

After adding directory name click ok.


Now go to the browse section from sidebar and click on the directory you created.


Step 7 : Now again click on add directory and create sub folder.


After adding name click ok.


Click on newly created sub-folder.


Step 8 : Click on upload to upload files.


If you want to overwrite existing files then check the overwirte existing files checkbox. Click on upload.





** Additional Details :

You can change some options after creating your file share.

* Access Tier :

From Change Tier option on File share overview page you can change the Access Tier of that file share.
Three Types of Access Tiers.

1) Transactional Optimized : 
Can let you read and write data.
Treats the files as hard disk on your computer.

2) Hot Tier :
Optimizes files for different purposes.
Sharing among different users.
If you want to synchronize your files with different data centers this option provides better performance.

3) Cold Tier :
Stores files which are not oftenly used.


* Quota :

By clicking on edit quota you can change the size of maximum amount of data which can be uploaded in your file share.


* Soft Delete :
Suppose you mistakenly delete a file and now you want to restore that file.
This soft delete option enables you that advantage.
If soft delete days are set to 7 days then after deleting one file you can restore it back within 7 days.


* Maximum Capacity :
You can change the maximum capacity of file by clicking on maximum capacity.
